PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION OF BRAND:

TADJ is a burned brand for an individual gunner—Thomas Albert Dwight Jones. The brand has block letters and is 1.5 inches long and .25 inches high.

BACKGROUND:

Thomas Albert Dwight Jones (TAD Jones, 1887-1957) was a Hall of Fame football coach at Syracuse and Yale, his alma mater, after completing a successful career as a quarterback for the Elis. He later had a lucrative business career and entertained clients at his Mockhorn Island gunning lodge on the eastern shore of Virginia. His brand has been found on decoys by Capt. John Glenn, August Heinefield, and the Holly family.
